Thank you, TNEB!

Like every other engineering student, I have all the time in the world right now to do anything that i wish - study holidays, the perfect time for catching up with an old book or seeing an occasional movie. And so, I was sitting with a philosophy book pondering over the meaning of life and living, when i chanced upon an article that explained the importance of saying "thank you". It seems that reflecting on the blessings around us and uttering those two magical words shows that you are a great person. Since, I believe myself to be great and noble, I want to take this as an opportunity to thank the most life changing factor I have ever experienced - TNEB.

No, I am NOT joking. The ingenious power cut system designed by TNEB has played a  very important role in shaping the way I am. Let me explain how.

Any one who knows me personally will tell you that I am a very erratic person. Ever since childhood, I have always loved doing things at the eleventh hour- Be it completing an assignment or buying something from shop, I used to procrastinate it till the last moment. And this behavior of mine was reflected in even little things, like charging my mobile phone before it gets switched off - Until, the power cuts started. Now, even with all the madness of the morning rush, I take time to put my mobile and music player on charge.
TNEB has taught me something in a week that my parents have been struggling to teach for the past 20 years - Regularity. Thank you, TNEB.

Ofcourse, With regularity comes planning and being organised. After making thousands of irrelevant plans all of which flopped, I became a person who just went along with the flow not bothering to decide what I am going to do the entire day. Power cuts have changed that too. Now, the plans for my entire day revolves around those two hours - segregating those "jobs" that require power and those that don't. I think I can now safely add good time management and organisation skills in my resume. Thank you, TNEB.

We all know that surviving those two hours without computer and TV is not an easy joke - And there comes TNEB's strategy for improving my innovative skills. Imagining the world from an ant's perspective, spending an entire day at landmark because there is no power at home, inventing a new recipe for making 'rasam' that doesn't require any grinding work, sitting on top of the tank meditating while the neighbor is wondering if I am planning to attempt suicide are a few things that I would attribute to power cuts. Thank you, TNEB. Again.

Apart from helping me become a better person, power cuts have also done a great deal in creating a better world. It is said that all governments are looking up at Tamil Nadu for having the least casualities due to electric shocks and patching up the hole in the ozone layer considerably. All credits to TNEB for duly denying us the power. So next time there's a power cut stop cursing, look around and feel blessed. And don't forget to say "Thank you, TNEB".

And oh by the way, the pic was just included for a few friends who take sadistic pleasure in saying that it is the only good thing about the blog. Thanks to you too ;)
