Of fairy tales and reality

I was practically depressed after a long, exhausting day and simply wanted to wrap myself in a blanket and sleep for eternity, when my little niece called me and demanded to know if i cried after reading snow white. Call me a cry baby if u want, but i had and being a honest and brave soul that i was, accepted it. The next moment i couldn't help but smile at the big wail i heard on the other end as my little darling too had been touched by the story of the sleeping beauty.Sleeping beauty - these words kept ringing on my head and put me into a series of thoughts that at last ended up in me thinking about those cute little things that happens only in movies, a few of which i have included in this post (If you are wondering how i jumped from sleeping beauty to movies, let us just say that my mind is worser than a monkey :P).

Writers, poets and lyricists all over the world have described the beauty emanated from a girl as she wakes up everyday - the radiance in her face when the sun rays fall, the way she opens her eyes slowly, the smile on her face as she remembers her beautiful dream and the cuteness with which she stretches out lazily, and so on. Our movies and directors have done an excellent job in picturising these descriptions with beautiful background scores. However, i don't understand two things about this. First of all, i wanted to know how these girls find the time for all this - and curious as i was, i thought of trying it out some day (whether it would be poetic if i did all that, is a different question altogether, i simply wanted to know if it is possible :P ). Sadly, my daily morning schedule only permits me to take a direct leap from the bed to the bathroom, with the background song of my mom and dad railing about why i sleep late every day. I don't even have the time to remember my dream, let alone enjoy it. Perplexed, i asked a few friends of mine who confirmed that they went through the same - Glad. Secondly, I have always wondered how the hair style of the heroine remains perfect, even when she is waking up. Now, unless some one ties themselves to the bed post and sleeps like a robot without even moving their head a little, i don't see how it would remain so. Most of the girls i know, wake up looking like they have just braved the cyclone and i am pretty sure that heroines are no exceptions unless beauty consciousness is inscribed in every cell of their body making them to be "good looking" even while sleeping.

Another thing that has never failed to amaze me is the perfect timing with which the hero catches the heroine whenever she is about to fall. I have seen a lot of girls fall down with not a single soul to catch and even if very rarely does it happen, the girl would be so embarrassed to even look at the face of the person and mutter a thank you, let alone fall in love at first sight. #from the personal experience of a friend :P

Talking of perfect timing, one cannot just ignore the "coincidental happenings" in the movies. Now, I am a person who roams around quite a lot, and in the last one year, I might have met a 'maximum' of 10 people in 'totally unexpected' places and never the same person twice (keeping in mind that meeting a person from another department in college or meeting your neighbor outside their house is not called coincidence). But, i am awed by the frequency with which the hero and the heroine accidentally meet - Well, it is called as coincidence if you meet a person once or twice accidentally, But meeting the same person in every other place you go to?  That's called stalking for heaven's sake. And trust me, it is never going to work. I actually saw sparks coming out of one of my friend when she learnt that a guy was stalking her. Her blood pressure was so high that I was scared she might get a heart attack soon :P

It's no wonder that we see people taking the movies literally. You cant expect a girl to smile if you break in to her room in the night to meet her - that only happens in the movies. In reality she is going to scream. And similarly, you can't break up with a guy because he didn't give you a platinum ring as your birthday gift. Perhaps, It is time to understand that it is only the "Start! camera! action!" said by the director that makes the rain to fall in the perfect moment in the reel life. Grow up and understand that movies are meant to be enjoyed, not lived as it is!
